Amalgamated Sugar retained Smith and Company Painting to prevent further rust corrosion of their metal tanks and apply epoxy paint to the concrete silo. Additional Painting to Metal Building Structure.

The 3 Step Prep and Coating Process

  1. Scaffolding Setup
  2. Power Washing and Sandblasting
  3. Epoxy Primer and Finish Coat Application

The 2 smaller tanks required sandblasting to remove the extensive rust. The large, 120-foot tall concrete silo was cleaned and prepped for painting using power washers.

Products Used To Prime and Paint – Induron Coatings

Rust RemovalInduron products are engineered for water storage tank painting and concrete surfaces. Whether you need a coating to protect against corrosion, or when it is time to recoat an old painted surface – Induron coatings provide the solution.  In addition, they also offer ceramic epoxy paints specifically designed with higher performance in mind so that their products will perform better than ever before while using less VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

Primer Coat – Induramastic 85

Induramastic 85 is a high build, surface-tolerant epoxy formulated for excellent adhesion to clean steel, rusted steel or weathered galvanizing.

The use of Induramastic 85 provides long-term protection to unpainted or previously painted steel without requiring sandblasting.

It may be used as an alternative for preventing toxic byproducts that are typically produced when blasting structures like buildings, fences/gates, etc., which extend its life span considerably in many cases due not only because it extends metal’s durability but also makes them much easier on paint jobs too!

Finish Coat – Indurethane 6600 Plus

water tankIndurethane 6600 Plus is a high-solids, glossy acrylic aliphatic polyurethane finish formulated with the highest quality of resins and pigments.

It provides outstanding performance in severe climates where long-term gloss retention is required; it has excellent abrasion resistance as well chemical fastness to shield against prints or other unwanted substances adhering on its surface for years without fading away due to acidic conditions that cause discoloration over time.

The coating’s color range offers an unlimited number of colors available which can be customized per customer needs so they’re always looking fresh from head to pixel!

Additionally, this product includes mildewcide molecules added during the manufacturing process which reduce microbial growth when used outdoors without compromising durability.

Wings and Waves Water Park in McMinnville Oregon is one of the most popular water parks in America. It has four different waterslides, plus a kiddie pool with a small slide for the kids to enjoy. There is a giant wave pool that will keep kids and their families entertained all day long!

The owners retained Smith and Company Painting to prep, repaint, and recoat various metal surfaces including ductwork, stairs, and lockers. Smith and Company also performed extensive drywall repair and painted it. Additionally, the expert commercial painters completed concrete floor surface prep and applied new epoxy paint to approximately 5,000 SF of concrete floor.

Metal, Steel, Aluminum and Concrete Painting | Overall Scope Of The Project

  • Rust Removal From Steel Stairs and Beams, Repaint
  • Sandblasting Sheet Metal, Aluminum, and Recoat.
  • Drywall Repair and Paint
  • Concrete Floor Grinding and resurface with epoxy floor paint.

The Problem – the new owner of Wings and Waves Water Park wanted to upgrade the appearance with new paint and drywall. Metal stairs and aluminum ductwork also needed sandblasting rusted areas and recoating.  The water park’s extensive foot traffic created large areas of wear on the concrete floors and required new epoxy floor paint. The painting crew experienced challenges because of height and ductwork access, which required sandblasting and repainting.

rust removal & repaint McMinnville

Solution – After the HVAC updates to eliminate the moisture and humidity, Smith and Company began the process of power washing the peeling paint (like the photo above) to remove and prep for new paint. Additionally, we sandblasted and repainted rusting metal on stairs, supports, and metal lockers in locker rooms. The concrete flooring prep started with grinding the old coating and applying a new, epoxy resurfacing coating.

Time of Completion – Approximately 3 Months

Interior Painting Inside Wings and Waves Water Park

  • Ceiling – Remove peeling paint and repaint
  • Walls – Repair damaged drywall, prime, and repaint
  • Locker rooms – Metal Lockers – sandblasted rust on metal lockers and repainted.
  • Stairs – Metal Stairs were rusting which required sandblasting and repaint.
  • Concrete Floor Work – After removal of carpet, the concrete ad areas of adhesive also requiring removal. We ground and removed the adhesive from the concrete. Also, we ground a large logo off the floor and recoated it with Sherwin Williams Acryla Deck Water Based epoxy.

Interior Painting For Single Family Home in Dayton Oregon

Case Study: Interior House Painting Dayton Oregon

Interior House Painting Dayton Oregon

This is a case study of the interior painting project we completed in Dayton Oregon on Henry Creek Road. There were few problems with this job, and it was relatively smooth sailing for our team – everything from ceiling to wall paint came out beautiful! We had to fix some minor cracks and nail holes that were about the size of a dime; but overall, they weren’t too big an issue at all.

The best part though? Painting ceilings! It’s something you don’t get to do often so when one comes up, we really enjoy doing them – especially because these old caulking jobs age over time which causes discoloration as well as some cracking throughout their surface area. Of course, before any work could begin owners removed pictures.

Interior Painting Details

Location:
 Henry Creek Road Dayton Oregon
Size: 3,800 square feet

Bedroom: In another of the bedrooms, we applied Sher-Color 6234 Uncertain Gray, a combination of black, new green, and maroon pigments.

Trim: Most of the trim was in good shape. We were able to clean and touch up the trim with 14880 Whisp Of Snow.

Paint Labels: For each project, we take photos of the paint can lids. We keep the images of each paint type for future records. Galvanized Roof Painting Case Study: Parker’s Industrial Roofing System

Parker’s Smith Coating Solution
Zinc Runoff from Galvanized Roofing

Problem: Non-Compliant Zinc Run-off from Galvanized Roof

25,000 sq. ft. galvanized zinc roof with 3/12 pitch exhibited an unacceptable amount of zinc oxide in the run-off and various locations on site. The state of Oregon performed testing and determined there were unacceptable levels of zinc. They mandated that the asset owner mitigate the condition
or replace the roof.

Solution: Parker Smith’s Metal Roof Painting System

Prepare and coat the roof with a two-coat system by Induron Protective Coatings to mitigate the run-off via encapsulation.

Our Process

  • Wash the roof with potable water at high pressure (2500-3000psi) to remove any contaminates and capture run-off water.

  • Dry abrasive blast roof using a 350 CFM compressor and #4 Venturi blast nozzle with 30-60 recycled glass abrasive as per SSPC SP-16, Society of Protective Coatings Surface Preparation method 16.

Non-Ferrous Brush off Blast achieves a 0.75 mil angular profile to promote adhesion and give a sound substrate to apply coatings.

  • Apply one coat of 85% Solid Induramastic 85 Epoxy Mastic at a dry film thickness of 6-8.5 with a Titan 1140 electric airless sprayer utilizing a 50’ x 1/4” hose and RAC 5 517 airless spray tip.

To measure thickness, the team used a wet film thickness gauge. These gauges quickly measure the thickness of coatings after application. As per SSPC PA-2 standards, they also used a type 2 dry film thickness gauge to measure the dry film thickness.

  • After 1 to 3 days of cure at ambient conditions, Smith’s team applied a second coat of Indurethane 660 aliphatic acrylic polyurethane at a thickness of 5-6 mils wet. The process included measuring both wet and dry as per SSPC PA-2 to ensure the correct total dry film thickness.

Methodology

Dry abrasive blasting is the best way to prepare a non-ferrous surface to accept coatings.

High Solid epoxy mastics promote adhesion as well as providing barrier corrosion protection.

Aliphatic polyurethanes achieve color and gloss retention for exterior exposures. According to ISO 12944, this system’s preparation level supplies a service life of 15 to 20 years.

Results

The asset owner is now in compliance with state and federal regulations without the need to remove the existing roof or shut down operations in any way during the project preparation and coating application.

With these colorful new Sherwin Williams paint palettes, it’s time to put this calamitous year behind with a new paint refresh for interiors (and exteriors too).
